Numeracy

Maths teaching at Mt Cook School is focused on meeting the needs of each ākonga and building strong foundations in mathematical thinking, knowledge and problem-solving. Our foundation Maths programme is PR1ME Maths, this is taught throughout the year levels.

Alongside PR1ME, teachers use a variety of strategies and resources, including Numicon, to meet the diverse needs of our ākonga. 

We also provide opportunities for senior ākonga who require further challenge through Maths Extension, the Otago Maths Challenge and the Mathswell competition. These opportunities encourage problem-solving, mathematical reasoning, collaboration and a love of mathematics.
